He Goes Before

Dark is the sky and veiled the unknown morrow,
Dark is life’s way for night is not yet o’er.
The longed-for glimpse I may not meanwhile borrow,
But this I know & trust, He goes before . . .

He goes before, be this my consolation.
He goes before, on this my heart would dwell!
He goes before, securing my salvation.
He goes before and therefore all is well,
Therefore all is well.

When doubts cast their weird, unwelcome shadows o’er me,
And fear and trembling overtake my mind,
The Shepherd moves me gently towards the mountain,
Quietly, I follow close behind.

He goes before, be this my consolation.
He goes before, on this my heart is sure!
He goes before, I am not forsaken.
He goes before and therefore all is well,
Therefore all is well.

If the loving Hand of our Lord moves us forward it is best,
To green pastures, quiet waters, on a mountaintop,
We will find rest . . . it is well, with my soul,
It is well, with my soul.

He goes before, be this my consolation.
He goes before, on this my heart would dwell!
He goes before, securing my salvation.
He goes before and therefore all is well,
Therefore all is well.

It is well, with my soul,
It is well, with my soul.
